Are you thinking about moving to Burlington?  Let me update you on what is happening here.  Just last night I attended a private reception to honor Burlington City Manager, Bruce Slagle for 10 years of service to the community.  Slagle resigned to take a job in the private sector.  Slagle said, "The long term vitality of any community depends on the creation and implementation of sound and intelligent strategies for growth.  The truth is in the results."  We've experienced three years of record building with 2007 being the highest year for building permits on record ------totaling 50 million!  Hotel/motel taxes are the highest on record.  Twenty million dollars in new taxable value for the next fiscal year.  What exaxctly has been going on here in our town?  Last year we witnessed the opening of the $10.5 million dollar library.  Slagle was instrumental in keeping the Dresser-Rand manufacturing business in Burlington with a $3.4 million dollar incentive package, which included state, city, and county funds providing 185 jobs.  We've also had the development of Fun City, Huck's Harbor and Huckleberry Entertainment, and we have the commercial development of the former Flint Hills Manor for future growth.  These are only a few of the optimistic growth opportunities for Burlington.  With the Great River Bridge and our beautiful riverfront and Memorial Auditorium, the downtown is also on the rise.  The development of the old Mercy Hospital has given us one of the most spectacular Chamber of Commerce offices anywhere.  Upscale offices and Martinis Restaurant have also been added to this location with views of the Mississippi River and Great River Bridge.  The Drake Restaurant on the Riverfront is another example of growth and development of an old warehouse with beautiful courtyard overlooking the Mississippi.  Lots of things are "in the works" of this growing community.  Come be a part of our growth and enjoy the quality of life we offer in this historical city of charm and optimism.  The real estate market is strong-----it's a great time to buy or sell.

Note to my Two-Bit Fit-Club members.

How are you doing?  I want to report that since Jan. 1, 2008 I have ridden my Aerodyne bike for 794 minutes, for a total of 136.1 miles !  Just do it!
